It is indeed a proud moment for Mumbai that it owns 3 lighthouses within it’s own vicinity. Lighthouses are used to guide the ships at night as a signal for a shore as well as the port which is present there. Here are the three lighthouses of Mumbai.

1] Dolphin Rock Lighthouse:

Dolphin Rock Lighthouse is near the Gateway of India and managed by Indian Navy. Around 58 feet tall, the lighthouse is unattended and emits a white-green inoculating light every four seconds, with a visibility of seven miles.

2] Sunk Rock Lighthouse:

The tower is mounted on a stone pier and painted in a red and yellow checkerboard pattern, with the lantern and gallery painted white. This one is managed by Mumbai Port Trust. Located around five kilometers from the Gateway of India, the Sunk Rock Lighthouse was built in 1884. The 66 feet tall lighthouse flashes a red light with white rays every six seconds.

3] Prongs Lighthouse:

This is a situated Colaba area and managed by Indian Navy. It was built in 1875 by Thomas Ormiston at the cost of Rs. 600,000 at that time! Its beam can be seen at a distance of 30 kilometers. It is one of three lighthouses of the city. The lighthouse had a cannon during British rule to secure the bay. It is only accessible during low tide.

Well, these places are the national heritages as well as the holders of importance in India’s harbor business. So don’t expect to reach there to click pouting selfies or ‘I love you Priya’ marks on them! They are used for some National purpose and not as a tourist place.
