Last week, our municipal corporation started a drive CLEAN CITY- GREEN CITY with a purpose to get our surroundings clean by public itself. As we all know that in the current scenario, it is most important and necessary that our surrounding must be clean as well as green.
MC, Shimla charted this program in City schools, colleges, bust stands, localities and communities for cleaner and greener cities. It ensures that the students and youth who are the decision makers of tomorrow, become champions of greenery and cleanliness. They lead by example to make their city healthy and green.
During this campaign, most of the public of our locality participated in this drive and performed their roles to the best of their ability. Even the small children were most enthusiastic while contributing in this drive. We started this campaign with the slogan “ HUM SAAF TO DESH SAAF”. During this drive, we performed following activities :
1. Collected trash in polythene bags.
We, in small groups, went through the whole locality and collected trash/waster in the polythene bags and destroyed that with the help of MC insulators. As we know that there is a dearth of dustbins in our city, we asked everybody to kindly make a habbit of carrying a poly bag with them always, so that one can keep that trash in bags instead of through the same on roads of locality. We requested them that Let’s stop blaming and start doing.
2. Segregate waste at home in 3 separate bins
We started movement for segregation of waster in 3 separate dustbins i.e Biodegradable, Recyclable and Others. This will definitely help in keeping our surrounding clean and disease free. Even we can use this biodegradable waste in making vermin-compost.
3. Cutting out all bushes and weeds from walls and roads
With the help of draati and other farm implements, we cutted out all the weeds and bushes from the walls and streets of our colony which gave a clean look to our locality.
4. tree planting
During this drive, we also did tree plantation with help of local NGO and planted about 350 plants in the vicinity of our locality. We also arrange lectures on growing your own food with a garden; organize cleanup and planting days; raise funds for green initiatives.
During this, we also requested people to start pooling policy for cars/two wheeler, by which pollution problem will also be solved. Definitely, this clean and green program actually gave our locality big results and now it has become our regular activity and due to this, our locality has really become clean and green and even people of other areas, depict our colony as a landmark, in their discussions
