EXPLANATION:
- Badanchandra Borphukan was the Ahom Forces Chief in Lower (or Western) Assam (an area located in Western Brahmaputra Valley covering Goalpara and Kamrup regions) and had betrayed the Ahom kingdom by requesting the Burmese to attack Assam. In the year 1816, Badan Chandra Borphukan went to the Burmese King Bodawpaya’s court and requested help to overthrow his political enemy Purnananda Burhagohain.
- The Burmese emperor consented and sent an army under the Bhamo general along with Badanchandra Borphukan who came into Assam in 1817 January. There were 3 Burmese conquests of Assam from 1817-826, in the course of which time the Ahom Kingdom was controlled by Burma from 1821-1825. Badanchandra Borphukan was made the Prime Minister of Ahom by the Burmese.
- Badanchandra, who was then in possession of the highest executive power, inflicted retribution on his old adversaries. Several Ahom noblemen, as well as the Queen-mother Numali Rajmao, were unhappy with Badanchandra's tyrannical behavior. The queen-mother conspired with Nirbhaynarayan Borgohain, and Dhani Barbara, the councilors of Ahom kingdom to do away with Badanchandra. Two sepoys from the Assamese army, Rahman Khan Jamadar, and Rup Singh Subedar were chosen to execute this task. In 1818, Badanchandra was assassinated while he bathing on the riverside.
