Hey!
The narrator’s mother failed to see through the clever manipulation of Mrs.Dorling because she pitied her and thought that she was only trying to help her save her good things as Mrs.Dorling was the one who suddenly approached her as a friend and put up the idea ‘Saving’, whereas on the other hand , this was a plan of Mrs.Dorling to keep all the things to herself.
Hope this helps you!!

THE ADDRESS
- In this chapter, the narrator's mother failed to see through clever manipulation and planning as she was an old and wise lady. The narrator's mom always thought and believed the fact that Mrs. Dorling was always trying to help and keeping to keep all her things safe.
- It was indirectly Mrs. Dorling's plan to introduce this idea of saving through her friend but whereas the real sentiments of Mr.Dorling were to take away all the things from her and keep all the things to herself.
- Narrator's Mother was too innocent and kind-hearted to understand the tactics that Mrs.Dorling was planning against her.
