Answers
Answer:
The narrator thought so because Mrs.Pumphrey did love tricki a lot. Moreover she used to think and treat him like her own sone. She couldn't live without tricki. Since a fortnight tricki had been in the narrator's surgery, and both were missing each other. Thus, he thought it wouldn't be long before he heard from Mrs. Pumphrey.

Answer:
The narrator thought so because Mrs. Pumphrey pampered tricki a lot. When he last saw them, he noticed that Tricki looked hugely fat with bloodshot eyes with his tongue lolling from his jaw. After inquiring about the dog's health, he learned that he had not been given proper exercise and was fed all sorts of unhealthy food. Even though the author strictly advised Mrs. Pumphrey on cutting tricki's diet and giving him the exercise needed he knew that Mrs. Pumphrey's love for tricki won't let her do this which will further result in Tricki getting seriously ill, hence Mrs. Pumphrey would need to call and visit the author who was a vet.
the author stood correct when he distraught Mrs. Pumphrey called him because Tricki fell ill as predicted by the author.
