we have to find the ratio of the pressure exerted by the box with surface of contact 4m × 3m and 3m × 2m
solution : let force exerted by the box with each surface of contact is F.
we know, pressure is the ratio force to the area of surface of contact.
as force remains constant.
so pressure is inversely proportional to area of surface of contact.
i.e., P₁/P₂ = A₂/A₁
= (3m × 2m)/(4m × 3m)
= 6m²/12m²
= 1/2
Therefore the ratio of the pressure exerted by the box with surface of contact is 1 : 2.
