The neck and bottom of a bottle have diameters 2 cm and 8 cm respectively. The

bottle is completely filled with kerosene. If the cork in the neck is pressed with a
force of 10 N, what force is exerted on the bottom of the bottle ? Name the law
principle you have used to find this force.

Given: The neck and bottom of a bottle have  diameters 2 cm and 8 cm  respectively.The bottle is completely  filled with kerosene.

To find: What force is exerted on the  bottom of the bottle ?

Solution:

Now we have given the diameter of the neck as 2 cm = 0.02 m

Now the area of cross-section of the neck will be:

            a = πd^2 / 4

            a = 0.000314 m^2

Now we have also given the diameter of the bottom as 8 cm = 0.08 m

Now the area of cross-section of the bottom will be:

             a = πd^2 / 4

             a = 0.005024 m^2

Now the force applied  will be: 10 N

According to pascal's law,

             F/A = f/a

             F = (f/a)A

             F = (10/0.000314)(0.005024)

             F = 160 N

Answer:

              So the force exerted is 160 N.
