The neck and bottom of a bottle have diameters 2 cm and 8 cm respectively. The
bottle is completely filled with kerosene. If the cork in the neck is pressed with a force
of 10 N, what force is exerted on the bottom of the bottle ? Name the law / principle
you have used to find this force.

Answer:

Radius of the cork at the neck is 1cm.

Area of the cork, A

c

=π×1

So, pressure applied through the cork, P

c

=

π×1

Same pressure is applied on the bottom of the bottle as per Pascal's law.

Radius of the bottom of bottle is 5cm.

Area of the bottom, A

b

=π×5

So, force applied at the bottom = P
