Question :- The net of a square pyramid is shown: A square is shown having each side equal to 0.75 inch. Each side of the square has a triangle on it. The height of the triangle is labeled as 0.8 inch. What is the surface area of the figure ?

A) 0.5625 square inches .

B) 0.7625 square inches .

C) 1.5625 square inches .

D) 1.7625 square inches .

Solution :-

we know that,

  • Area of a ∆ = (1/2) * Base * height .
  • Area of square = (side)² .
  • Surface area of a regular pyramid = Area of its lateral faces + Area of base .

so,

→ surface area of square pyramid = Area of 4 ∆'s + Area of square base .

→ surface area = 4[(1/2) * Base * height] + (side)²

→ surface area = 2(0.75 * 0.8) + (0.75)²

→ surface area = 2 * 0.6 + 0.5625

→ surface area = 1.2 + 0.5625

→ surface area = 1.7625 inches². (D) (Ans.)

Hence, the surface area of the figure is 1.7625 inches².
