Wishing ‘good night' is something parents teach their kids as good manners and make sure they do so every night.
However, those trying it in recent days are likely to get only cold stares from their kids, owing to the incessant night power cuts that have hit Madurai hard and totally disrupted the sleeping habits of its residents.
Residents say that the power supply has totally gone out of control with no predictable pattern to the power cuts. Families having small kids, aged and elderly people have more harrowing times.
Further, the increased power cuts could not have come at a worse time as Madurai was witnessing one of the most scorching of summer with the mercury rising very high.
Apart from the hour-long power cuts, the repeated spells of outages lasting for a couple of minutes are also causing problems and residents are worried about its impact on sensitive and expensive electronic equipment such as LCD televisions and air conditioners, stabilisers notwithstanding.
