Given : event requires each runner to jump 8 hurdles that are spaced 12.3 meters apart.

there are 15 meters from the starting line to the first hurdle and 10.5 meters from the last hurdle to the finish line,

To Find :  how long is the race

Solution:

point to be take care here :

if 2 hurdles are spaced at x m

Then Distance = (2 - 1) x =  m

if 3  hurdles are spaced at x m each

Then Distance = (3 - 1) x = 2x m

runner to jump 8 hurdles that are spaced 12.3 meters apart.

Distance between 8 hurdles

= (8 - 1) * 12.3

= 7 * 12.3

= 86.1 m

there are 15 meters from the starting line to the first hurdle and 10.5 meters from the last hurdle to the finish line,

Hence length of race =  15 + 86.1  + 10.5

= 111.6 m
