48 is the right answer
3*5=15 which is (4+1)3
3*9=27 which is (8+1)3
and therefore 3*16=48 which is (15+1)3.

 \textbf{Sequence : 1 ,  3 ,  4 ,  8 ,  15 ,  27<br />}

 \textbf{This sequence is based on the First two terms , }

 \textbf {  \textit{First two terms = 1 ,  3 }}

Sequence, after first two terms,

Third term = 4

Sum \: of   \: two  \: terms = 4 <br /> \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: (as \: there \: is \: no \: third\: term \: before \: 4)

1 + 3 = 4

Fourth term = 8

Sum of 3 previous terms = 8

1 + 3 + 4 = 8

8 = 8

Fifth term = 15

Sum of previous three terms = 15

3 + 4 + 8 = 15

15 = 15

Sixth term = 27

Sum of previous three terms = 27

4 + 8 + 15 = 27

27 = 27
