RULES:-

Significant figures can be found using a few rules(Rules in bold have been used to solve this question.

  • All non zero digits are significant.
  • Zeros between non zero digits are significant.
  • Leading zeros are never significant. Eg: 0.02, 001 have no significant zero.
  • In decimal numbers, trailing zeros are significant if they add to precision.
  • If number is not decimal , trailing zeros are insignificant.

Example:1.1000 has all significant 0's but 1000 has no significant zero.

Answer:-

  • In 5400, there are 2 trailing zeros but number is not decimal. So zeros are non significant.
  • Hence 5400 has only 2 significant digits.
