The Non Cooperation Movement spread to the country because it was a mass movement. People from all sections of the society participated in it. Moreover, there was no violence. Gandhiji believed in complete non violence. Gandhiji started the non cooperation movement and merged it with the Khilafat movement started by Mohammed Ali and Shaukat Ali, thus Hindu and Muslims united. This broadened the base of the movement, and the movement broadened the social base of the Congress. It instilled a new confidence in the minds of the people.
