The Northern plain of India is considered to be the most fertile plain of India.It is drained by three river systems like the Indus,the Ganga,the Brahmaputra along with their tributaries. The rivers brings down a large amount of sediments (alluvial soil) which makes the soil fertile. These sediments are deposited for millions of years which spread over an area of 7 lakh sq km.It is the most densely populated plain.
Here there is continuous deposition of sediments and the area spead about 2400 km. The rivers carry on their deposition and when they reach a plain area they form a fertile river plain in the lower course of its river.
The climate is favorable,continuous water supply helped to develop agriculture in this area.
As the soil is very fertile many food crops are cultivated here like wheat,pulses ,millets etc. As this area has many river with its distributeries the area has not only developed in agriculture but it has shown a tremendous development in industries too. It has provided a good employment opportunity in the industrial sector which also has given rise to tertiary sector too.
More and more people has started to settle there for jobs. Moreover states like Rajasthan,Haryana,Jammu Kashmir,Uttarakhand,Uttar Pradesh,Himachal Pradesh also has been places for tourist attraction. They are famous for hill stations,pilgrimage centers and lakes.
Some of these states are famous for their handicrafts items and cottage industries too.Like Kashmiri shawls.Rajasthan's Bandhni designs etc attract the tourists and are also a good source of income to the local people.
Plgrimage centers like Gaya,Kashi,Benaras also attract many people and the local people earn as a tourist visits those places.
In fact the northern plain is an area which is a boon to the people of India.
