GIVEN :

The nth term of A. P. 5,2,-1,-4,-7......is

TO FIND :

The nth term of A. P. 5,2,-1,-4,-7......is

SOLUTION :

Given sequence  A. P is 5,2,-1,-4,-7...

Let a_1=5, a_2=2, a_3=-1,....

Common difference d=a_2-a_1

d=2-5

⇒ d = -3

 d=a_3-a_2

d=-1-2

⇒ d = -3

∴  Common difference is d=-3

The formula for nth term of the sequence AP is given by :

a_n=a_1+(n-1)d

[tex]a_n= 5+(n-1)(-3) [/tex]

= 5-3n+3.

= 8-3n

[tex]a_n =8-3n [/tex]

∴ the nth term of the given Sequence AP 5,2,-1,-4,-7..... is [tex]a_n =8-3n [/tex]
