Given,

An A.P = 5,2,-1...

To Find,

The nth term of A.P

Solution,

First, we have to find the value of a and n using the given A.P.

a = 5

d = 2-5 = -3

Now, the formula for calculating the nth term is

aₙ = a+(n-1)d

    = 5+(n-1)(-3)

    = 5-3n+3

    = 8-3n

Hence, the value of nth term of the A.P is 8-3n.

8-3n

Given A.P. is 5,2,-1,-4,-7.....

a (first term) = 5

d(common difference ) = a_{2} - a_{1} = 2-5 =-3

By formula

a_{n} = a + (n-1)d

a_{n} = 5 + (n-1)(-3) = 5-3n+3

a_{n} = 8-3n

Hence the nth term is 8-3n
