Smallest whole digit in place of X in the number 456X85 is 2 which is divisible by 3.

Solution:

If the number 456X85 is divisible by 3 then it has to be a multiple of 3.

Now to know number is divisible by three, we add all digits present in the number it has to be a multiple of 3 or divide by 3.

Sum of digits of the number is 4 + 5 + 6 + X + 8 + 5 = 28 + X

Now smallest number that can be placed in place of X so that 28 + X is divisible by 3 is either -1 or 2

Now it can’t be a negative number hence value of X is 2.

Let us check by dividing it by 3,

Number is 28 + X = 28 + 2 = 30, which is divisible by 3

Value of X is 2.
