boys : girls

7 : 5

difference = 7 - 5 = 2

2 = 8 student

1 = 8/2 = 4

hence

7 : 5 = ( 7 × 4 = 28 )

and ( 5 × 4 = 20 )

total number of students in class

28 + 20 = 48

let the no. of boys be 7x.
and no. of girls be 5x

according to question,
5x+8=7x
8=7x-5x
8=2x
x=4

no. of boys= 7x
=7*4=28

no. of girls=5x
=5*4=20

total no students=no. of boys + no. of girls
28+20=48
