The ratio of boys and girls = 7 : 5

Let, x be the common multiple.

So, number of boys is 7x and that of girls be 5x

Thus, total number of students

= 7x + 5x

= 12x

By the given condition,

7x = 5x + 8

or, 7x - 5x = 8

or, 2x = 8

or, x = 4

Hence, the strength of the total class

= total number of students

= 12x

= 12 × 4

= 48
