Let the no. of girls be 5x
No. of boys=7x
According to the question
5x+8=7x
7x-5x=8
2x=8
x=8/2
x=4
No. of girls=5*4=20
no. of boys=7*4 or 5*4+8=28
Hence the total strength of the class is 20+28=48

Let us assume the number of boys in the class to be '7x'.

Let us assume the number of girls in the class to be '5x'.

Writing the condition given in the question in words:

No of boys = No of girls + 8

Framing this in the form of a linear equation in one variable:

7x = 5x + 8

Solving this linear equation which we just framed:

Taking 5x to the other side of the equation we get:

7x - 5x = 8

2x = 8

x = 8 / 2

x = 4

Therefore, the value we obtain for 'x' is 4.

Calculating the number of boy's that are there in the class:

= 7x

Putting value of x:

= 7 x 4

= 28 boys

Calculating the number of girls that are there in the class:

= 5x

Putting value of x:

= 5 x 4

= 20 girls

Calculating the total class strength:

= No of boys + No of girls

Putting values we obtained:

= 28 + 20

= 48 students

Therefore, the total number of students in the class is 48 students.
