Correct Question :

The number of boys and girls in a class are in the ratio 7:5. The number of boys is 8 more then the number of girls. What is the total strength of the class.

Given :

  • The number of boys and girls in a class are in the ratio of 7:5
  • The number of boys is 8 more than the number of girls.

To find :

  • Total number of students.

According to the question,

Let the ratio be 7x and 5x

And the number of boys 8 more than the number of girls is 5x + 8

→ 5x + 8 = 7x

→ 8 = 7x - 5x

→ 8 = 2x

→ 8 ÷ 2 = x

.°. x = 4

Value of 7x :

7x

7(4)

28

Value of 5x :

5x

5(4)

Answer:

Ratio of Boys : Girls is 7 : 5

Thus the no. of Boys are 7x and no. of girls are 5x

As per statement there are 8 more boys than girls. This means

7x - 5x = 8

2x = 8

x = 4

Rational is 4 therefore

No. of Boys = 7x = 7 × 4 = 28 boys

No. of Girls = 5x = 5 × 4 = 20 girls

Total number of Students = 28 boys + 20 girls

Total number of students = 48

Answer there are 28 boys and 20 girls in the school and total number of students are their in the class
