The number of boys and girls in a class are in the ratio 7:5. The number of boys is 8 more than the number of girls. What is the total class strength? ​

  • let the number of boys be x
  • Number of girls x-8
  • Total strength of class = x +(x-8)

Then, The Ratio of boys to that of girls=

=7/5 = x/x-8

  •  =  \frac{7}{5}  =  \frac{x}{x - 8}  \\  = 7(x - 8) = 5x \\ =  7x - 56 = 5x \\   = 7x - 5x = 56 \\ =  2x = 56 \\  = x = 28

Total strength of class=x+(x-8)

= 28+(28-8)

= 28+20

= 48
