Answer:

total class strength = 60

Step-by-step explanation:

boys:girls = 7:5

If number of boys = 7a then number of girls = 5a

total class strength = 7a+5a = 12a

given,

7a = 5a + 10

=> 7a - 5a = 10

=> 2a = 10

=> a = 10/2 = 5

=> 12a = 12×5 = 60

Question :–

The number of boys and girls in the class are in the ratio 7:5. the number of boys is 8 more than the number of girls. what is the total class strength ?

Given :–

  1. Number of boys & girls in the class are in the ratio 7:5 (7x & 5x)
  2. The number of boys is 8 more than the number of girls.

To Find :–

  • Total strength of class.

Solution :–

Let the number of boys be 7x & the number of girls be 5x

According to the question,

Number of boys = Number of girls + 8

 \implies 7x = 5x + 8

 \implies 7x - 5x = 8

 \implies 2x = 8

 \implies x = \frac{\cancel8}{\cancel2}

 \implies \boxed{x = 4}

Therefore,

The number of boys  = 7x = 7 \times 4 = 28

And the number of girls  = 5x = 5 \times 4 = 20

So,

The total strength of class = Number of boys + Number of girls

 \implies 28 + 20

 \implies 48

Therefore,

The total strength of the class = 48.
