Answer:

boys = 721, girls=479

Step-by-step explanation:

no. of girls=y

no. of boys in school=x =y + 242

x + y = 1200

(y+242)+y=1200

2y+242=1200

2y=1200-242= 958

y=958/2=479

x= 479+242=721

Step-by-step explanation:

let the number of girls in the school be 'x'

therefore the number of boys in school = x+242

according to the given conditions

no. of boys+no. of girls in school=1200

therefore 1200= x+(x+242)

1200=2x+242

1200- 242=2x

therefore 2x =958

x= 958÷2=479

no. of girls in school=479

no. of boys in school=x+242=479+242=721

put therefore sign every where needed
