SOLUTION :

GIVEN

  • The number of chocolates in three packets P, Q & R are in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4

  • The total number of chocolates in the three packets is 270

  • Packet R sells 20 chocolates to packet P

  • Packet R sells 10 chocolates to packet Q.

TO DETERMINE

After this sale, what is the ratio of chocolates in packets P : Q : R

CALCULATION

Since the number of chocolates in the three packets P, Q and R are in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 4

Let the number of chocolates in the three packets P, Q and R are 2x, 3x and 4x respectively

So

 \sf{}2x + 3x + 4x = 270

 \implies \sf{}9x = 270

 \implies \sf{}x =30

So

The number of chocolates in the P = 60

The number of chocolates in the Q = 90

The number of chocolates in the R = 120

Now Packet R sells 20 chocolates to packet P and Packet R sells 10 chocolates to packet Q

So after this sale

The number of chocolates in the P

= 60 + 20

 = 80

The number of chocolates in the Q

 = 90 + 10

 = 100

The number of chocolates in the R

 = 120 - 20 - 10

 = 90

Hence After this sale, what is the ratio of chocolates in packets P, Q, R is

 = 80 : 100 : 90

 = 8 : 10 : 9

FINAL ANSWER

After this sale, what is the ratio of chocolates in packets P, Q, R is 8 : 10 : 9
