5
amu-5
ali-7
as they together build a pond in 12 days=24/2
thus considering ratio as x
5x+7x=12
12x=12
Thus x=1

Answer:

Amu can dig 1 pond in 20.5 days

& Ali can dig 1 pond in 28.8 days

Step-by-step explanation:

Considering x as common factor,

Amu-1pond= 5x days

Ali-1pond=7x days

Amu can dig 1/5x in 1 day and Ali can dig 1/7x in 1 day.

They together can dig (1/5x+1/7x) in 1 day.

By question, They can dig 1 pond in 12 days. That is they can dig 1/12 in 1 day.

Now,

1/5x + 1/7x = 1/12

=> 12/35x = 1/12

=> x = 144/35

Thus Amu can dig 1 pond in 5× 144/35 days i.e 20.5 days

& Ali can dig 1 pond in 7× 144/35 days i.e 28.8 days
