Solution 1:

Let the number of girls be x

The number of boys = 7x

.

There are 48 students:

x + 7x = 48

.

Solve for x:

8x = 48

x = 6

.

Find the number of boys and girls:

Girls = x = 6

Boys = 7x = 6 x 7 = 42

.

Answer: There are 6 girls and 42 boys.

Solution 2:

Let the number of boys = x

The number of girls = 1/7 x

.

There are 48 students:

x + 1/7 x = 48

.

Solve x:

x + 1/7 x = 48

8/7 x = 48

8x = 336

x = 42

.

Find the number of boys and girls:

boys = x = 42

girls = 1/7 x =1/7 (42) = 6

.

Answer: There are 6 girls and 42 boys.

let the number of girls in class =x
the number of boys in class=7x
total number of students in class=48
according to the condition,
x+7x=48
8x=48
x=6
the number of girls =x=6
the number of boys,
7x
7×6=42
