Three

{ For bur more clarity refer to the attachment }

  • There are basically three P - O - P Bond present in cyclic metaphosphoric acid.

Metaphosphoric Acid

  • The General formula: {HPO3}n
  • π Bond = 3 and Sigma = 15

▫️ All the double bonds have one Sigma and one pi bond whereas , a single bond contains only sigma bond counting is done on basis of the number of double and single bonds , in case of triple bond one is Sigma and just 2 bonds are pi bonds.

Prepration

  • Heating of phosphoric acid for long time results in formation of metaphosphoric acid.

Additional information

  • Molecular mass = 80
  • Mostly colourless in nature and also acts as good dehydrating agent.
