Given : The number of pets each student owns is: 0, 2, 1, 1, 1, 2, 0, 3, 5, 3, 0, 3.

To Find :interquartile range

Solution:

0, 2, 1, 1, 1, 2, 0, 3, 5, 3, 0, 3

arranging  data in order

0  0    0   1   1   1    2   2    3   3    3     5

There are total 12  data point

lower data set  0  0    0   1   1   1

Median of lower data set =   (0 + 1)/2  = 1/2

Lower Quartile Q₁  = 1/2

upper data set  2   2    3   3    3     5

Median of upper data set =   (3 + 3)/2  = 3

upper Quartile Q₃  =3

interquartile range = Q₃   - Q₁   = 3  - 1/2  = 2.5

interquartile range = 2.5
