The number of students who appeared for 2 certain examinations of English and Mathematics was 80. Out of them 55 students passed in English and 65 students passed in Mathematics. How many students had passed in both the examinations?

Answer:

n(u)=80

n(e)=55

n(m)=65

n(e n m)=?

Now,

n(u)=n(e)+n(m)-n(e n m)

80=55+65-n(e n m)

80=120-n(e n m )

n(e n m )=120-80

∴n(e n m)= 40 ans..
