Given observations are 2 , 3 , 4 , 4 , 2x + 1 ,

2x + 1 , 7 , 7 , 8 , 9 .

Number of observations ( n ) = 10 [ even ]

median = average ( n/2 , n/2 + 1 ) th terms

= Ave ( 5th , 6th ) terms

= ( 2x + 1 + 2x + 1 )/2

= ( 4x + 2 )/2

= 2x + 1 ---- ( 1 )

median = 7 ----( 2 ) given

from ( 1 ) & ( 2 ) , we get

2x + 1 = 7

2x = 6

x = 3 ,

Therefore ,

Observations are 2 , 3 , 4 , 4 , 7 , 7 , 7 , 7 , 8 , 9

mode = 7
