The numbers a,b,c and d are distinct positive integers chosen from 1 to 10 inclusive.

What is the least possible value a/b +c/d could have?

Since A,B,C, and D have to be distinct then it has to be 2/8 + 1/8, which 25/72. The idea is to choose denominator digits as large as possible and numerator digits as small possible.

If you make it 1/9 + 2/8 then it's 26/72 which is greater than 25/72 , so that's ruled out.

No other combination would give you anything smaller than 25/72, so the answer is 25/72, which is 0.3472222... (2 recurring), when a= 2, b= 9, c= 1 and d=8.
