Explanation:

No. of protons =11, hence atomic no =11
so the element is Na.
It has one electron less than the no. of protons, hence it has a unit +ve charge. No of neutrons =12
Mass number =no of protons +no of neutrons

Answer:

Given info : the number of electrons, protons and neutrons in a species are equal to 10, 12 and 13 respectively.

To find : the proper symbol to the species is ...

solution : before solving it, we need to understand some basic principles of element.

   in a pure element,

no of protons = no of electrons

no of protons = atomic no

and mass no = no of protons + no of neutrons

if no of electrons > no of protons, it means an atom of element gains electrons so the charge on it is negative and it is equal to no of extra electrons.

if no of protons > no of electrons, it means an atom of element loses electrons so the charge on it is positive and its value equals to ( no of protons - no of electrons).

here no of electrons = 10

no of protons = 12

no of neutrons = 13

∴ atomic no = 12 we know it is magnesium.i.e., Mg.

but two electrons are removed from it ground state so, the symbol of it will be Mg²⁺.

therefore the the proper symbol to the species is Mg²⁺
