let the numerator as x-4 and denominator as x

now equation woul be

\frac{(x-4)+1}{x+1}=\frac{1}{2}

on cross multiplying
2(x-4+1)=x+1
2x-8+2=x+1
2x-x=8-2+1
x=7

since numerator was x-4
so 7-4=3

fraction \:would \:be

\frac{3}{7}
