Answer:

15/20

Step-by-step explanation:

Lat the rational no. be x/y

ATQ x/y=3/4

==>3y=4x ------------1

ATQ (x+3)/y=3/5

==> 5x +15=3y ---------2

equating equation 1 and 2,we get

4x= 5x+15

x=-15

now putting value of x in equation 1, we get

3y=4(-15)

y=-60/3

y= -20

The rational no.= x/y= -15/-20

15/20

Given :

  • The numerator and denominator of a rational number are in the ratio 3:4. If denominator is increased by 3, the ratio becomes 3:5.

To Find :

  • The rational number = ?

Solution :

  • Let numerator be 3x and denominator be be 4x.

  • Therefore,the fraction will be 3x/4x.

According to Question now :

  • If denominator is increased by 3, the ratio becomes 3:5 :]

→ 3x/(4x + 3) = 3/5

By cross multiplying both the sides we get :

→ 3x × 5 = 3(4x + 3)

→ 15x = 12x + 9

By transposing 12x towards LHS we get :

→ 15x - 12x = 9

→ 3x = 9

→ x = 9 ÷ 3

x = 3

  • Hence,the value of x is 3.

Finding the numerator :

→ Numerator = 3x

→ Numerator = 3 × 3

Numerator = 9

  • Hence,the numerator of required rational number is 9.

Finding the denomintaor :

→ Denomintaor = 4x

→ Denomintaor = 4 × 3

→ Denomintaor = 12

  • Hence,the denomintaor of required rational number is 12.

Hence,the required rational number is 9/12.
