Answer:-

Let the fraction be x/y.

Given :

Numerator is 1 less than the denominator.

→ x = y - 1 -- equation (1)

And,

If the numerator is decreased by 2 and denominator is increased by 3 the fraction becomes 1/4.

According to the question,

→ (x - 2)/(y + 3) = 1/4

Substitute the value of x from equation (1)

→ (y - 1 - 2)/y + 3 = 1/4

→ (y - 3)/(y + 3) = 1/4

After cross multiplication we get,

→ 4(y - 3) = y + 3

→ 4y - 12 = y + 3

→ 4y - y = 3 + 12

→ 3y = 15

y = 5

Substitute "y" value in equation (1).

→ x = y - 1

→ x = 5 - 1

x = 4

Hence, the fraction x/y is 4/5.
