To Find:-

  • Find the fraction.

Given:-

  • Numerator of a fraction is 1 less than the denominator if the number is decreased by 2 and denominator is increased by 3 the fraction becomes 1/4.

Solution:-

Numerator of a fraction is 1 less than the Denominator.

️ ➭ x = y - 1

And,

The equation is

️ ➭ (y - 1 - 2)/(y + 3) = 1/4

️ ➭ 4( y - 3 ) = 1( y + 3 )

️ ➭ 4y - 12 = y + 3

️ ➭ 4y - y = 12 + 3

️ ➭ 5y = 15

️ ➭ y = 15/3

️ ➭ \tt\boxed { \: y \:   =  \:  5 \:  }

So,

The value of x is

️ ➭ x = y - 1

️ ➭ x = 5 - 1

️ ➭ \tt\boxed { \: x \:   =  \:  4 \:  }

The fraction is 4/5.
