The numerator of a fraction is 2 less than its denominator. If 3 is added to both numerator and denominator then the sum becomes 53/35. Find the fraction.

To Find : the fraction.

Solution:

numerator of a fraction is 2 less than its denominator.

Let say fraction is  x/(x + 2)

3 is added to both numerator and denominator

=> (x + 3)/(x + 2+ 3)  = 33/35

=> (x + 3)/(x + 5) = 33/35

=> 35(x + 3) = 33(x + 5)

=> 35x + 105 = 33x + 165

=> 2x = 60

=> x = 30

Fraction is  30/32

(x + 3)/(x + 5)  = 53/55

=> 55x + 165 = 53x + 265

=> 2x = 100

=> x = 50

Fraction is 50/52
