Answer :-

  • The fraction is 2/5.

Given :-

  • The numerator of a fraction is 3 less than denominator. If numerator is added to the denominator, then the fraction becomes 2/7.

To Find :-

  • The fraction.

Solution :-

Let

  • Numerator be x
  • Denominator will be x + 3

Numerator is added to the denominator = x /( x + 3) + x

The new fraction is 2/7

According to question :-

⇒ x/ (x + 3) + x = 2/7

⇒ x/ x + 3 + x = 2/7

⇒ x/2x + 3 = 2/7

⇒ 7 × x = 2 (2x + 3)

⇒ 7x = 4x + 6

⇒ 7x - 4x = 6

⇒ 3x = 6

⇒ x = 6/3

⇒ x = 2

Now

  • Numerator = x = 2
  • Denominator = x + 3 = 2 + 3 = 5

Hence, the fraction is 2/5.
