 \odot  \:  \rm Question

The numerator of a fraction is 4 less than it's denominator. if the numerator is decreased by 1 the fraction becomes 2/3. Find the fraction.

\large \tt Answer

 \red =   \dfrac{11}{15}

Assumption

Let the denominator of the required fraction be x

then as per the question number would become (x - 4)

ATQ

If the numerator is decreased by 1 then the fraction would become 2/3 .

 : \implies \tt \dfrac{(x - 4) - 1}{x}  =  \dfrac{2}{3}  \\  : \tt \implies \dfrac{x - 5}{x} =  \dfrac{2}{3}  \\

On Cross Multiplication we get

 \twoheadrightarrow \tt3x  - 15 = 2x \\  \rightarrow\tt  \colorbox{purple}{x = 15}

We have assumed denominator to be x whose value comes to be 15

Now, numerator = ( x - 4 ) = 15 - 4 = 11

Conclusion

The required fraction is 11 / 15 .

Thankyou

Answer:

The numerator of a fraction is 4 less than the denominator. If 1 is added to both its numerator and denominator, it becomes 1/2. What is the fraction?

Let the denominator Y

Fraction is

Numerator =Y-4

(Fraction = Y-4) /Y

If 1 is added to both numerator and denominator

(Y-4)+1 /Y+1 =1/2

Y+1= 2Y -6

Y=6+1=7

Fraction is

7-4/7 = 3/7

Verification

3+1/7+1 =4/8 =1/2:
