The numerator of a fraction is 4 less than its denominator. If the numerator and
denominator are both decreased by 1, the new fraction becomes 5/17. Find the original
fraction.​

(x-4-1) /(x-1) =5/17

17(x-4-1) =5(x-1)

17x-68-17= 5x-5

12x = -5+17+68

x =80/12

=20/3
