Let the numerator be 'x'.

=> Denominator = x + 4

The fraction = \frac{x}{x + 4}

Numerator is decreased by 2 and the denominator is decreased by 1 [Given}

\frac{x - 2}{x + 4 + 1} = \frac{1}{8}

\frac{x-2}{x+5} = \frac{1}{8}

8(x-2) = 1(x+5)

8x - 16 = x + 5

7x = 21

x = 3

The fraction is \frac{3}{7}
