let the denominator=A,
then numerator=A-4,
then
fraction will be (A-4)/A,
now according to question, we have
[(A-4)+1]/(A+1) = 1/2,
(A-3)/(A+1) = 1/2,
2A-6=A+1,
then
2A-A=1+6,
A=7,
therefore
fraction =(7-4)/7 =3/7
then numerator=A-4,
then
fraction will be (A-4)/A,
now according to question, we have
[(A-4)+1]/(A+1) = 1/2,
(A-3)/(A+1) = 1/2,
2A-6=A+1,
then
2A-A=1+6,
A=7,
therefore
fraction =(7-4)/7 =3/7
