let the denominator of original fraction = x

then ,numerator = (x - 4)

original fraction = ( x - 4)/ x

If 2 is added to the numerator:
------------------

New numerator= (x - 4) + 2

= (x - 2)

new fraction = (x - 2)/ x

since, the new fraction formed = 5 / 7

so then ,

(x - 2)/ x = 5 / 7

7( x - 2) = x (5)

7x - 14 = 5x

2x = 14 => x = 7 ,

original fraction = (x - 4)/ x

= (7 - 4)/ 7 = 3/ 7

Answer: required fraction = 3/ 7

Answer:

let the denominator of original fraction = x

then ,numerator = (x - 4)

original fraction = ( x - 4)/ x

If 2 is added to the numerator:

New numerator= (x - 4) + 2

= (x - 2)

new fraction = (x - 2)/ x

since, the new fraction formed = 5 / 7

so then ,

(x - 2)/ x = 5 / 7

7( x - 2) = x (5)

7x - 14 = 5x

2x = 14 => x = 7 ,

original fraction = (x - 4)/ x

= (7 - 4)/ 7 = 3/ 7

Answer: required fraction = 3/ 7

Step-by-step explanation:let the denominator of original fraction = x

then ,numerator = (x - 4)

original fraction = ( x - 4)/ x

If 2 is added to the numerator:

------------------

New numerator= (x - 4) + 2

= (x - 2)

new fraction = (x - 2)/ x

since, the new fraction formed = 5 / 7

so then ,

(x - 2)/ x = 5 / 7

7( x - 2) = x (5)

7x - 14 = 5x

2x = 14 => x = 7 ,

original fraction = (x - 4)/ x

= (7 - 4)/ 7 = 3/ 7

Answer: required fraction = 3/ 7
