Step-by-step explanation:

Let the denominator be x

Numerator = x-4

x-4/x

If one is added to both of them

x-4+1/x+1=1/2

x-3/x+1=1/2

=2x-6=x+1

2x-x=1+6

x=7

The denominator is 7

The numerator = 7-4=3

The number is 3/7

Step-by-step explanation:

let  \: the  \: numerator  \: of \:  the  \: required  \: fraction \:  be \:   x

then \: its \: numerator = (x - 4)

∴ \:  \frac{x - 3 \:  + 1}{x - 1}  \:  =  \:  \frac{1}{2}

 =  >  \:  \frac{x - 3}{x + 1}  \:  =  \:  \frac{1}{2}  \:  =  >  \: 2(x - 3) = x + 1

 =  >  \: 2x \:  - 6 = x + 1 =  >  \: 2x \:  - x \:  = 6 + 1 \:  =  > x = 7

∴ \: denominator \:  =  \: 7 \: and \: numerator \:  =  \: (7 - 4) = 3

hence \: the \: required \: fraction \: is \:  \frac{3}{7}
