x-4/x is the fraction

x-4+1/x+1=1/2

x-3/x+1=1/2

cross multiply;

2(x-3)=x+1

2x-6=x+1

2x-x=1+6

x=7

the fraction before adding 1 was = 3/7

and after adding one is = 4/8 which is 1/2
