Let the denominator of the fraction be x
Then, the numerator of the fraction is x-4
Now, we know that the fraction is  \frac{x-4}{x}
We have to create an equation and find the value of x

 \frac{(x-4)+1}{x+1} =  \frac{1}{2}
 \frac{x-4+1}{x+1} =  \frac{1}{2}
 \frac{x-3}{x+1} =  \frac{1}{2}
I am going to use cross multiplication method.
2(x-3) = 1(x+1)
2x-6 = x+1
2x-x = 1+6
x = 7

We have found the value of x to be 7.
Numerator =

pinakimandal53: Sorry, I have not written the complete answer.
pinakimandal53: Numerator = x-4 = 7-4 = 3 and Denominator = x = 7

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the denominator be x

and the numerator be x-4

X-4 +1/ X+1 = 1/2

2(X-4+1) = X+1

2x -8 +2 =  X+1

2x -x = 1+8-2

x = 7

Therefore, fraction = x-4 / x

                                = 7-4 / 7

                                 = 3 / 7 ans.
