Answer:
Let the denominator of the required fraction be
x .
According to question ,
numerator of the required fraction =x - 4.
And if 1 is added to both its numerator and
denominator is became 1/2
x - 4 + 1/ x + 1 = 1/2
= x - 3 / x + 1 = 1 /2
= ( x - 3 ) × 2 =( x + 1 ) × 1 ( by cross multiplication )
= X × 2 - 3 × 2= X + 1 ( Distributive property states that )
= a( b + c ) = ab + ac )
= 2x + 6 = x + 1
= 2x - x = 6 + 1 ( by moving like terms on same side of equation )
= x = 7
Thus the required fraction = x - 4 / x = 7 - 4 / 7 = 3 / 7
