Let the numerator be x
Let the denominator be y
x=(y-4)
x-y=-4-------------(1)
(x+1) (y+1)=1/2----------(2)
Solve this by any four methods

let numerator be x and denominator be y
The numerator of a fraction is 4 less than the denominator
so, x = y - 4..............(1)
1 is added to both its numerator and denominator,it becomes 1/2
so, (x + 1)/(y + 1) = 1/2
(y - 4 + 1)/(y + 1) = 1/2
(y - 3)/(y + 1) = 1/2
2(y - 3) = (y + 1)
2y - 6 = y + 1
2y - y = 6 + 1
y = 7
substitute y in (1)
x = 7 - 4 = 3
the fraction is x/y = 3/7
The numerator of a fraction is 4 less than the denominator
so, x = y - 4..............(1)
1 is added to both its numerator and denominator,it becomes 1/2
so, (x + 1)/(y + 1) = 1/2
(y - 4 + 1)/(y + 1) = 1/2
(y - 3)/(y + 1) = 1/2
2(y - 3) = (y + 1)
2y - 6 = y + 1
2y - y = 6 + 1
y = 7
substitute y in (1)
x = 7 - 4 = 3
the fraction is x/y = 3/7
